Mrs. Violette's Shakespeare Vocabulary
One of the biggest fears felt by students when reading Shakespeare is not being able to understand the words and terminology. Something that might be of some assistance in teaching Shakespeare’s language in the classroom is this set of free Shakespeare flash cards I discovered online:

You can print the terms and...

Shakespeare as post-modernist? | ABC Arts →
A quite fascinating review of the Thomas Ostermeier directed Schaubühne Berlin production of Hamlet at the Sydney Festival 2010. I really wanted to see this when I first heard it was coming to Australia. This review makes me regret the decision to not fly over to Sydney to see it.
More information about the production, which has now ended its short run at the Festival, can be found here:

Jen Bervin - Nets
Imagine Shakespeare crossed with Japanese haiku poems crossed with erasure poetry. Imagine no longer.
Erasure poet Jen Bervin’s Nets takes Shakespeare’s Sonnets (get it, sonnets) and strips them to the bare essentials, bite size pieces of Shakespearean beauty.

Shakespeare the superhero
Once again it seems the world of comic books and Shakespeare meet. No I’m not talking about the upcoming Kenneth Branagh directed film adaptation of Thor (2011). In 1969 Jack Kirby, the creator of such characters as Captain America, the X-Men and the Fantastic Four, designed costumes for a college production of Julius Caesar.
In 1969, Sheldon Feldner contacted Marvel Comics, asking if one...

Lights, camera, action Shakespeare?
Roland Emmerich, he of big budget disaster films such as 2012 (2009) and Independence Day (1996) is making a film about William Shakespeare. Emmerich’s upcoming Elizabethan political-thriller Anonymous, is based on the controversial notion that Shakespeare’s plays were actually written by someone else. In this case, Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford is the supposed secret author, not...

Coming to a theatre near you
Three cinematic adaptations of Shakespeare’s play I’m looking forward to.
The Tempest (Dir. Julie Taymor) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1274300/ From the groundbreaking director who brought us Titus (1999), Frida (2002) and Across the Universe (2007), this film should be a tripped out, majestic masterpiece. The cast includes Helen Mirren as the now female Prospero (Prospera), one of my...

This year the cinema going public in Australia will be lucky enough to get not one, but two productions of...
